Charles Swenson, PhD, CPA
Professor and Leventhal Research Fellow,
Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California.
Prof. Swenson has five years of “Big Four” tax experience, and has actively consulted to Fortune 1000 companies over the last 20 years. He holds a Master of Taxation degree, and a PhD. Chuck has been Professor and Leventhal Research Fellow at the University of Southern California’s 3rd-ranked (nationally) Leventhal School of Accounting for 16 years, he is also visiting Professor of Accounting at the prestigious California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He is author of over 50 publications in top accounting and economics publications, is (or has been) on the editorial boards of numerous prestigious journals, and was awarded the prestigious best Tax Manuscript Award by the American Taxation Association a record three times. He is author of the best-selling texts Strategic Corporate Tax Planning (Wiley, 2002) and State and Local Taxation: Principles and Planning (J.. Ross Publishing, 2003). The latter text is the only in the field. Chuck is a computer programmer who is active in the AICPA, the American Taxation Association, the American Economic Association, the California Society of CPAs, and numerous other professional societies.
Dr. Shlomo Benartzi
Associate Professor, The Anderson School at UCLA
Dr. Shlomo Benartzi is an associate professor at UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management. Dr. Benartzi received his Ph.D. from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management. His research investigates participant behavior in defined contribution plans. In particular, his current work examines how do individuals make financial decisions in retirement saving plans? In addition, he is developing “behavioral prescriptions” to assist employees make better financial decisions including the Save More Tomorrow™ program. Dr. Benartzi’s work has been published in the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Finance, the Accounting Review and Management Science. His work been discussed in the Economist, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, the Los Angeles Times, Money Magazine, the New York Times, Plan Sponsor, Pensions and Investments, the Wall Street Journal and CNBC. Benartzi served on the ERISA Advisory Council of the U.S. Department of Labor, the Investment Advisory Council of the Alaska State Pension and the advisory board of Morningstar.
